Alexandra Jesse (PI)
Assistant Professor, Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences

Dr. Jesse investigates how humans recognize speech from hearing and seeing a speaker. She has received a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2005. She then worked as a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, The Netherlands, before joining the UMass faculty in 2010. Dr. Jesse is also an Executive Board member of the Auditory-Visual Speech Association (AVISA). CV

Elina Kaplan
is a graduate student in the Neuroscience & Behavior doctoral program whose research interests are focused on multimodal processing and selective attention.

 

 

Undergraduate Researchers

Emilee Bates
is studying Communication Disorders with a minor in Education and Psychology. After graduating she plans to attend graduate school to obtain a Master’s degree in Speech language Pathology.

 

 

 

Chantel Brennan
is majoring in Communication Disorders with a minor in Psychology and in Education. After graduating, after graduating, she plans to attend graduate school to get her AuD degree in Audiology. She hopes to one day work with children in a hospital setting.

 

 

 

Sarah Hammond
is double majoring in Communication Disorders and Linguistics with a minor in psychology and education. She plans to go to graduate school to become a Speech Pathologist and work with children.

 

 

 

Anarose Hogan
is majoring in Communication Disorders with a minor in education. After graduating, she plans on attending graduate school for her Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology.

 

 

 

Lauren Hourican
is majoring in Communication Disorders with a minor in education. After graduating, she plans on attending graduate school for her Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology.

 

 

 

Smriti Karwa
iis majoring in Communication Disorders and Pre-medical studies with a minor in Women, gender and Sexuality studies. She plans on attending graduate school for audiology and working with children.

 

 

 

Emma Leahey
is studying Communication Disorders, minoring in Education and Psychology. After she completes her bachelor’s degree she hopes to attend graduate school and achieve her master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology.

 

 

Alexa Livingstone
is studying Communication Disorders with a minor in Psychology. She is also a distance runner for the UMass Cross Country and Track team. After she completes her undergraduate degree, she plans on attending graduate school to obtain a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology.

 

Anna Paterson
is studying Communication Disorders with a minor in Education. After completion of her undergraduate degree, she hopes to attend graduate school and to obtain a degree in Speech and Language Pathology.

 

 

Noah Sullivan
is a Linguistics, English, and Philosophy triple major studying at UMass Amherst. After graduation, Noah plans to pursue his M.A. in Linguistics and study the Celtic sociolinguistics of Modern Irish and the other Celtic languages. His speciality is in socio-phonology, translation, and language acquisition
